Caltra Cuans V ST. Marys Killererin

The Under 16 league final was played on the 23rd April in Mountbellew, against St. Mary’s Killererin.  This was a much more evenly contested game as both teams had their full panel available. The game started at good pace with Caltra-Cuans opening the score and continued to stay on top until half time with a lead of 2 – 6.  Again the second half started with a goal after 5 minutes but soon after that St. Mary’s started to get a grip on things and found their way back in to the game and with a nip and tuck performance the gap was narrowing and there was only a few points in the difference.   As 3 of our players were involved with county that weekend and also played a senior game with club were now starting to tire and our pace of play was greatly slowed down.  Some harsh referee decisions certainly did not help things at all but nevertheless the desperate Caltra Cuan’s girls battled on and showed great pride in their club and the great numbers of supporters that had come to see them win the county final by one point.   Final Score 4-10 Caltra Cuans to  4-9 St. Mary’s Killererin.  Megan Kelly our captain accepted the trophy on behalf of the team to mark another great day in Caltra Ladies Football.
