Congratulations to Padraic and Cathal Mannion on the success of the Galway minor hurling team over a much fancied Clare team last weekend. This was an enthralling contest and went to extra time where Galway proved to be too strong for their munster opponents. Padraic lined out at wing back and had an excellent game throughout making some great block downs at vital stages. Cathal is minor again next year and will most definitely be a first team player by then.
Best of luck to both lads in the All Ireland final next month.

Under 16 league final

posted 8 Jul 2011, 15:41 by Caltra Juvenile

Caltra and Glenamaddy played the league final in Mountbellew on Tuesday evening with Glen coming out on top on a scoreline of 4-3 to 1-6. Caltra opened the game brightly with the breeze behind them and led by 3 pts to nothing only to concede a goal on 10 minutes to level the game. A goal on 20 mins by Mark Dowd helped Caltra to lead by 1-5 to 1-1 at half time. With the aid of the wind in the 2nd half Glenamaddy began to control the game around midfield and scored goals on 7 and 16 minutes to pull ahead. They continued to dominate the game and finished 6 pts to the good at the final whistle. Caltra fought bravely to the end and the game could have been won if goal chances in the 1st half were taken. Scorers on the evening were Eoin O' Ceallaigh (4 pts), Mike Murphy (2 pts) & Mark Dowd (1 gl). Despite the defeat the panel and management can be proud of a great league campaign and this should provide great encouragement for the upcoming championship.
